Yas Viceroy

Yas Viceroy Abu Dhabi is a five star hotel located on Yas Island built over and alongside the Yas Marina Formula 1 circuit; the only hotel in the world to straddle a Formula 1 race track. The Yas Viceroy is a true architectural triumph, designed by New York based Asymptote Architecture, half the hotel is built on land and the other half placed in the Marina itself, built above the water.

Al Futtaim Carillion commenced construction on the luxury hotel in January 2008 for Aldar Properties, Abu Dhabi’s leading real estate development company. The 914,932 square foot hotel is formed of two twelve storey towers linked by a bridge crossing the Formula 1 circuit. The hotel consists of 500 luxury bedrooms with an array of restaurants and leisure facilities on offer.

Construction of the hotel brought together more than 70 specialist subcontractors from around the world, ensuring the hotel would be completed to the highest standards prior to Abu Dhabi’s inaugural Grand Prix in November 2009. The hotel was handed over to Aldar Properties in October 2009 with construction being completed in 89 weeks costing in excess of AED 2.2 billion (£381,707,678). Yas Viceroy officially opened its doors on the 1st

The hotel’s main feature is its unique grid shell made up of 5,389 colour changing LED lights incorporated into a 219 metre curvilinear steel frame and covered by 5,096 diamond shaped panes of glass. The optical effect is stunning, reflecting thousands of coloured lights against the surrounding sky, sea and desert landscape. It is this feature along with the hotels prime location that makes the Yas Viceroy such a significant landmark destination for not only Yas Island and Abu Dhabi but the UAE at large. of November 2009.
